SD-01: Preparation of the rebates to accept capping timbers

What this detail covers

• Preparing a panel rebate to accept a structural capping timber.
• Creating a continuous glue line so the joint is structural and airtight.

Key steps

1. Check the rebate is clean and dry, then apply a continuous bead of expanding PU adhesive to the rebate interface.
2. Insert the structural timber capping into the prepared rebate.
3. Secure the capping timber mechanically through both OSB facings using the specified fasteners.
4. After expansion/cure, trim excess adhesive flush with the panel face.

Checks

• Timber is fully seated (no rocking) and fixed to the schedule.
• Adhesive line is continuous (no dry gaps).
• Faces are flush and ready for the next component/detail.

Common mistakes

• Interrupted adhesive line (air leakage + weak joint).
• Under-fixing or fixing off-centre into the timber.
